Front Arena Upgrade Automation & Test Framework

As part of the upgrade of Front Arena from version 2021.4 to 2024.1, the bank faced a technically demanding migration. The existing test and deployment landscape was heavily manual, leading to upgrade risks, long test cycles and higher susceptibility to errors. The goal was to carry out the upgrade in a structured, reproducible way with minimal impact on ongoing operations.

For the business, stability, transparency and speed were the focus. Automated tests reduce the risk of production errors and significantly shorten release and upgrade cycles. A standardised deployment and package management logic creates investment certainty and makes future version changes easier. The business case lies in reduced operational risks, lower manual effort and sustainably higher platform stability.

The upgrade offered the chance to modernise test and deployment processes from the ground up and embed DevOps principles in the trading environment. Challenges included the automated provision of consistent test environments, validation of complex valuation and trading logic and ensuring regression and compatibility between versions.

A Jenkins-based test and automation platform was built that runs Front Arena tests in a structured and repeatable way. Test environments were provisioned automatically, code deployments standardised and clean package management established. The upgrade from 2021.4 to 2024.1 could thus be carried out in a controlled, transparent manner with clear regression test coverage.

We designed and implemented the test framework, automated deployment and upgrade processes (Python, PowerShell, Jenkins, Git) and supported the migration technically and organisationally. Our value lay in combining Front Arena expertise, upgrade experience and DevOps automation capability.
