Beacon Proof of Concept

As part of a strategic evaluation, the aim was to assess whether a modern trading platform could efficiently support real-time position keeping and risk management. The goal was a proof of concept based on the Beacon Platform to test streaming of market and position data, position reconciliation and SOD/EOD processes under realistic conditions.

The business aimed to gain real-time transparency on positions and risks while laying the groundwork for a future-proof trading architecture. A successful evaluation would reduce technological uncertainty, create investment clarity and enable faster innovation cycles. Real-time capability would also improve steering quality, reduce operational risks and improve decision-making in trading.

The opportunity lay in introducing an event-driven architecture with streaming of market and position data via Kafka and flexible data storage (MongoDB). Challenges included the correct business mapping of complex position logic, consistent reconciliation of real-time and EOD data and integration into existing downstream processes.

An integrated solution based on the Beacon Platform was developed in the proof of concept. Python-based logic enabled real-time position keeping and risk calculations, while Kafka handled streaming of market and position data. SOD/EOD processes were tested and validated and position reconciliations automated. The result: a solid basis for deciding on the strategic further development of the trading architecture.

We were responsible for requirements engineering, business workshops, architecture design and technical implementation of the PoC. We ensured that business requirements were translated precisely into system logic. Our value lay in combining deep trading understanding with modern streaming architecture expertise.
