Pension & Investment Backend / DevOps Lead

As part of the modernisation of pension and investment services, a new backend system based on Aixigo BLOXX was introduced. The goal was to build a scalable microservices architecture while establishing a stable, automated deployment and operations landscape. The challenge was to bring together multiple environments, complex dependencies and high quality requirements under a consistent DevOps model.

For the business, faster time-to-market for new pension and investment products was the focus. GitOps-based CI/CD pipelines, automated deployments and standardised operations processes reduce release risks, lower operating costs and increase stability. A robust DevOps architecture enables more frequent releases with higher quality – a direct competitive advantage in digital asset management.

The introduction of modern container and orchestration platforms (OpenShift, Kubernetes) offered the chance for scalability and clear environment isolation. Challenges lay in orchestrating multi-stage deployments, secure management of secrets (CyberArk Conjur), quality assurance of Helm charts and building end-to-end monitoring with Prometheus and Splunk.

GitOps-based CI/CD pipelines with GitLab CI and ArgoCD were implemented, Helm charts tested and standardised and microservices containerised and orchestrated. Monitoring and logging concepts were established and unit and regression tests automated. The result is a stable, scalable backend and operations platform for pension and investment products.

We were responsible for solution architecture and took on the DevOps lead role. This included overall technical design, architecture decisions, pipeline and deployment design, testing strategies and support for project management.
