AFP Web Banking Integration & Test Automation

With the introduction of a new online and mobile banking based on AFP Web Banking, the bank faced a comprehensive transformation. In addition to functional changes in e-banking, architecture, development processes and infrastructure had to be built for sustainable in-house further development. At the same time, high release frequency with consistent quality had to be ensured – especially in the sensitive frontend area.

For the business, a modern digital client interface, shorter release cycles and higher quality assurance were the focus. Building automated visual regression tests significantly reduced manual test effort and minimised production risks. A stable development and deployment infrastructure enables faster product changes and improves time-to-market for new features in online and mobile banking – with higher client satisfaction.

Introducing a new e-banking platform offered the chance to establish architecture principles, development standards and test automation properly from the start. Challenges lay in integrating AFP Web Banking into existing backend systems, ensuring consistent UI/UX quality and building performant test pipelines with Playwright and Bitbucket Pipelines. Business units, business analysts and developers also had to be aligned on common best practices.

Functional extensions in AFP Web Banking (Angular, TypeScript, HTML, SCSS) were implemented and a comprehensive test automation strategy built. Visual regression tests with Playwright, extended mock servers and faster CI/CD pipelines on OpenShift ensured quality and stability. In parallel, development processes, infrastructure and governance structures were established for sustainable in-house development. The result: a modern, scalable online and mobile banking platform with high release safety.

We were responsible for architecture and implementation, designed the test automation solution and optimised CI/CD processes. We also trained developers, business analysts and business units in AFP best practices and supported the build-up of an independent development organisation.
